This week we`ve got new videos from Scissor Sisters, Adele, Broken Social Scene, Suckers, and Fujiya & Miyagi. One thing I noticed about this week`s top five videos - they were all directed by foreign directors. I`m not sure why that is. There are also less videos since things are slowing down for the holidays. Next week we`ll make a summation of all the best NSFW videos of the year, since you should not be running by then, and you`ll need something to speak about with relatives.
Enjoy: Scissor Sisters - "Invisible Light" (Dir. CANADA) (NSFW)
Barcelona-based trio CANADA also directed El Guincho`s puzzling and wonderful "Bombay" video. Like "Bombay," this one feels a little like you`re flipping through channels, though there`s a much stronger central character here, an upper-class woman who seems like she`s been dropped into a 70s psychological horror (think something similar the often-referenced Suspiria). I feel like all their videos are leaving to designate up here eventually. Broken Social Scene - "Texico Bitches" (Dir. Thibaut Duverneix)
This picture is an oil company battle turned literal- those are, I think, stylized versions of Texico`s logo on one team`s faces. The wrestling match between the two representatives gets sloppy, then intimate, then, sort of free for the final shot. Montreal director Thibaut Duverneix has also directed a picture for Ghislain Poirier. Adele - "Rolling In The Deep" (Dir. Sam Brown)
Sam Brown`s meticulous and detailed style works well here with Adele`s impressive vocals. The set is a vast percentage of this one, a huge mansion in the centre of renovation, full of all these depressing shades of green. Monokino - "New Kid" (Dir. Erik Alkema)
Director Erik Alkema is likewise the artist behind the video`s puppets and costumes. I also like that there`s lots of wind turbines in the background, since both the set and the conductor are from Amsterdam. (via Antville) Suckers - "It Gets Your Body Movin`" (Dir. Darko Dragicevic)
This isn`t the 1st appearance for this costume. Darko Dragicevic used it when he filmed the set in Berlin in October. In this picture the costumed man looks like an alien exploring this planet. Or, as others have mentioned, an excess in a Fever Ray video.
