Journey to Therese: Human Life International's Statement on the Fr .

Human Life International Releases Additional Information on the Resignation of Rev. Euteneuer
FRONT ROYAL, VA - The HLI Board of Directors, in answer to a publicstatement by Rev. Thomas Euteneuer, issues this further statement andclarification: In August 2010, HLI received allegations of inappropriate conduct byRev. Euteneuer involving a young adult woman, which occurred within thecontext of his exorcism ministry.

The Table immediately commenced aninquiry into the allegations, and Rev. Euteneuer admitted inappropriateconduct. At that time, Bishop Gerald Barbarito recalled Rev. Euteneuerto the Bishopric of Palm Beach, and HLI sought and received Rev.Euteneuer`s resignation. Since the metre of Rev. Euteneuer's resignation, the Boardsubsequently learned of additional allegations in association with hisexorcism ministry. As Rev. Euteneuer no longer serves as president ofHLI, we are not especially endowed with the competence or authority toinvestigate, evaluate, or act on these additional allegations, buttheyhave been submitted to the proper ecclesiastical authorities. HLI received certain assurances that Rev. Euteneuer was no longerengaged in public ministry and therefore, until this time, in ourefforts to observe Catholic teaching, we have avoided comment (beyondour original statement). This conclusion was based on all the teachings ofthe Church but in detail the Catechism`s instructions as follows: "Charity and respect for the truth should order the answer to everyrequest for data or communication. The full and safe of others, respect for privacy, and the common goodare sufficient reasons for being silent about what ought not be knownor for making use of a discreet language. The obligation to avoid scandaloften commands strict discretion. No one is destined to discover the truth tosomeone who does not take the good to recognize it."(Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2489. Emphasis in the original. Although it is for the Bishopric of Palm Beach and the properecclesiastical authorities to call the matters referenced in Rev.Euteneuer`s statement, we ask that the HLI family continue to pray forall those involved. HLI has not been, and will not be, deterred in itsfundamental mission as pro-life missionaries to the world, and welikewise ask for the prayers of all that support HLI`s work that thiscritical mission will never be undermined.
